It has occurred to me that If a concrete sidewalk was prepared, laid out as the paths of a maze, and then bamboo was planted between the various concrete paths, one could grow a bamboo maze.
A.-- Space has this been done
B.-- Would there be any other effective thing that could be used besides concrete to make the paths that wold be cheaper and keep the bamboo from coming up in the middle of the paths?

You could lay out the paths with gravel -- which I assume is cheaper than concrete -- then just kick over any shoots that come up in the paths. This would allow you to change the layout in the future too. This could also be a way to ensure that the middle parts of the grove get enough light to stay full.
If I'm still living in the area in 5? 7? 10? years I'll come check out your bamboo maze!

It's www.apple-works.com. There are just two small photos of the bamboo maze though.

I'd definitely use gravel. You can dig the path a couple of inches below, fill it with gravel and remove shoots each spring. You can just hack the rhizomes that entered the gravel and pull them out. If not in soil, they will be much easier to remove. If you see any new growth by fall, you can easily remove it, before it even branches out or starts growing roots.

I'm creating mazes in my yard. Right now by rhizome control. The gravel sounds like a better way besides the polyethylene barrier
