Uses for bambo leaves

Post by boonut »

Someone from Aloe Corporation came and visited the farm today. They were interested in growing Ph. Nigra "henon" down here for the leaves. Evidently, there is something they extract from the leaves to add to aloe. Anyone heard of this. Of course, I showed them my 3 foot tall henon that is 7 years old. They agreed it wasn't a good bamboo for this area.

Their major farms are out in the open with winds and cooler temps. They are going to do some research into other bamboo that grows here to see if they can use any extracts from culms, leaves, etc..

The VP was from Korea. He was really amazed to see bamboo in this area. If anyone knows something about bamboo extracts, let me know so that I can pass it on to the VP. Thanks.

Allen, I do know that they do use it for the silica in the leaves. Silica plays an important role in the formation of healthy hair nails, and our bones. Some recent research has shown that supplementing with silica may even be more important than calcium in the prevention of osteoporosis, along with just healthy bones in general. I don't know if that is what they are after, since in some eastern medicine it is used for other things in it as well.
