I dug some of the new shoots today to see what was going on with the rhizomes and almost half of the aureosulcata shoots were whip shoots.

If the R.Y. you're referencing is a piece from what I sent to IN, it sent out shoots on and off almost all year. For every whipshoot there would be one or two smaller normal shoots.
If you sent them to needmore, then it is from that batch. It was top killed last winter and put up shoots that topped out at two foot tall. The six foot (and growing) whipshoot was a complete surprise.

BTW, I didn't get the camera shot lined up very well, but here is a picture of the Melocanna baccifera that I have been nursing along. It recently put up a new shoot.

Roy, my Lako just started to shoot a few days ago. Hang in there, they're coming.

Still nothing from Parker Giant, or my Guadua's either.

I almost forgot... The B. beachyana Pubescens just started to shoot today!

The "Robert Young" shoot looks to have topped out about seven foot tall. The P. aurea and P. aurea 'Holochrysa' shoots have topped out about eight feet tall. The 'Holochrysa' has now put up an even larger shoot.

Pleioblastus viridistriatus 'Chrysophyllus' also seems to be putting out larger than normal shoots. Shoots have normally stayed two foot or under, but pretty much the same size. These look to be three foot or better and certainly stand out from the group. :?

Very odd shooting and growing season this year. :?

Still waiting on my in ground 'Painted' to shoot, it is on of the few that get plenty of water in my desert oasis but it just won't shoot. I am hopeing that means it is just takeing longer makeing big shoots. All of the potted painted have several shoots and are ready to divide.
