pond liner as bamboo barrier?

i'm one of those unlucky folks who doesn't live out in the boondocks, so i have to seriously consider ways to keep my boo contained. has anyone ever used a preformed pond liner as a giant 'pot?' they make these things fairly large, and some of them are made with 140mil plastic (much thicker than some rhizome barriers sold at bamboo retailers). it seems like this might make a pretty ideal way to contain a boo in the city. anyone with any experience they can share?

here's the specific liner i was looking at:

i figure i can just give it the same treatment i give my pots and whiskey barrel planters - drill some little holes in the bottom, cover them with wire mesh and lay down a thick layer of pea gravel over all of that to keep deep rhizomes from escaping. it's worked so far, anyway. maybe i should try to find a pond liner that's a little deeper than this one....

here's one that's a little deeper. it would probably work a little better for what i'm after.

ideally, i'd like to find one that's 3' deep, but 2' is deeper than any of my rhizomes have gone so far....

I have installed both Flexible barriers and what they call fixed barriers. The fixed ones will work, however the flexible barriers are probably much less than 30 mill thick so rhizomes would go strait through. If you do install a fixed pond or pre-formed pond poke holes in the bottom to allow maximum drainage..in fact you could remove the bottom entirely if it were deep enough. -eastlandia

When considering the cost of the preformed ponds and the price of rhizome barrier. I would go with the rhizome barrier but only with the 60mil and I would double it around. I wish I would have done that before I put in a whole bunch of groves with the barrier and now I am making sure they aren't trying to break through. Also, I would have went with the 3feet depth barrier instead of the 30inch deep barrier I have. Alot has to do with the type climate and soil conditions also.
There is a garden center by me that has been in the watergardening business for 2 decades and they made a mistake of planting bamboo near there pond displays with had 45mil liner. Well, in 3years time the boo was having a field day and tore it up pretty quickly. If only they would have listened...

For cheap pond stuff, look at Rubbermaid stock tanks that are sold at farm/ag stores/websites.
