big boo in PNW

today i made a nice score but not sure what it is. there is a grove of about 30' big bamboo that got uncovered by a new development. some contractors cut down some culms so i found the property mgr and asked for some root. grabbed the wheelbarrow, hatchet & slammer and dug up a 150-200 lb ball! this is really big stuff for Seattle. the sun exposed part of the culms are yellow while the shade portion are green. can these be p. edulis? any thoughts?

I believe you can rule out Edulis but not enough data to suggest a proper ID - start with the usual suspects for your area - Bambusoides, Vivax - does not look like Henon either.

it says vivax culms are thin walled. these have walls about 1/2" around a 3" diameter culm. but that some are yellow makes me think vivax.

I would say probalby bambusoides, as vivax here tend toward a distict yellow. Bambusoides culms always look fresh and green.

I vote for bambusoides. Vivax has a distinct white ring at the base of each node. Way to thick walled for vivax. I don't think its praecox walls to thick.
