David, I got an Iridescens last year from Ned at bamboo Garden in OR and I suspect he has more. Mine was a 1-gallon that was shooting when I got it in early March and it produced a 6' shoot later in the summer.

If its the striping on fat culms that you fancy, mature Dulcis will often have very similar markings and will likely get much larger for you - sorry, I can't remember if you already have it?

Kurt, Bard doesn't post here anymore, Bill cleared him off the membership list as spam.

But back to the topic. This shows a few pics of his sweetshoot.
Look like they were gaining some size in year two.

Brad,

Your dulcis really jumped its 2nd year :!: I've got 2 dulcis planted, but this will be their 1rst shooting season. I mulched deep, and watered heavy. I hope they do well. I think its a beautilful bamboo. I like the girth vs height disproportion, and the short branches. You're right about the protected area. One of mine is well protected from the wind and the other is exposed. The exposed one looks pretty beaten up, but its still got some decent rhizome growth.

Does your iridescens have any color? I really like the progression of colors as the culms mature over several years. Maybe I'm just buying into the book hype, but someone has some with color somewhere.

Lance- I'll check out Bomboo Garden. Thanks for the link. When does your weather warm up enough to ship?

Rick- You're welcome. From what I've seen with rubro it's hard to go wrong with it as a screen. I wonder if I may have to keep the far edge juvenile as the grove matures since it gets really tall and holds its branches high on mature culms? That will be a nice problem to have!

Aye caramba, it was a warm day today, 60F .
Snowstorm comes through tomorrow.
Not sure what the weather holds out for the future, but evidently not warm in the next week. Suppose to dip in the negativeF's this weekend, highs in low teens, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr........................

I'll keep you updated when I think the weather will allow shipment to occur.

I'll watch for your e-mail. They're fine where they are, I've got them piled up under a cedar tree, with a blanket of pine straw. They'll keep. 8)
