A stand of Pleioblastus we planted at a friend's about 10 years ago. It shows no tendency to wander into the adjacent woods.

Re: Pleioblastus viridi-striata
Wow, what a beautiful planting! Interesting that it, as a shade-loving bamboo, hasn't tried to spread into the woods
God Bless,

Re: Pleioblastus viridi-striata & Fargesia murieliae
This one gets sun most of the day. I think because it is drier in the woods (especially in the upper layers) it tends to avopid wandering in.
They mow it to the ground early in the spring as it usually dies back or looks very ratty. After this past winter it kept a surprising number of leaves but still it required chopping back.
Same garden here is one of our better Fargesia murieliae seedlings from circa 2000. Pix from last night.

How tall is the viridistriatus? It's quite impressive!
(I wish mine looked that fresh right now, but at least it's not curled up anymore).

It's about 20 inches high though the land slopes down at the rear so could be a bit taller at the back of the stand.
I was surprised it looked so good given the drought and the reflected heat from the asphalt.

Re: Pleioblastus viridi-striata
We've had an extremely dry summer, then 2" of rain last week, now we are dry dry again. So I was very surprised to see the viridi-striata looking so good in this urban planting, I had fully expected both reduced height and burnt tips. The bed is only about 20" wide and never gets watered. The Pleioblastus managed to get under several blocks of sidewalk and into that bed in front to the next house up the street.
